You will never understand why you’re here if you don’t know the One who brought you here. You will never understand why you were blessed with something, if you don’t know what it means to be a blessing yourself. You will never understand why you’re in pain, if you don’t believe in the virtue of patience. You will never make sense of this life, if you don’t believe in an afterlife. You will never know who you are, if you don’t know who you want to become. You will never know where you are going, if you don’t know where you came from. We live in a world full of suffering which is meant to wake us from our slumber. But if we constantly dwell on what we feel has missed us, we may be missing out on a far greater sense of purpose and self-worth. A life with less confusion and more certainty. A life of meaning where we learn to live in harmony with divine decree, so that we could get to know our Lord who created us and our stories. You may have asked before, why me? But have you ever asked, why not me ?

If Allah wishes to bestow His grace upon someone, He places in their heart the desire to travel the path to rectify the attributes of their soul. Allah decreed that success in this life and the next be judged according to the degree to which people purify their souls and attain noble character. It is thus the duty of every believer to seek to attain noble character and emulate their Prophet who said: “I was only sent to perfect noble character.” In a series of thirty lessons, Habib Umar bin Hafiz discusses the importance of character refinement and focuses on the traits and qualities that every believer should strive to acquire. He demonstrates how the Prophet and the pious people of his nation embody each character trait and shows the reader how to emulate them. In our times we have never been more in need of improving our character and rectifying ourselves. This is a book for every seeker, every believer and every family. May it be a source of light for every heart and the catalyst for moral transformation.

Joram van Klaveren, also called ‘the crown prince of Wilders’, was a famous critic of Islam. As a former member of the Dutch Parliament and a representative of the Party for Freedom, he submitted numerous bills related to Islam, such as those calling for the closing of mosques, for removing the Quran from parliament and for banning Islam from the Netherlands.
In order to reinforce these thoughts and opinions, he — as a Christian — began to write a book critical of Islam. During the process of writing, however, he found an increasing number of matters that challenged his views of Islam. In this book, Joram describes his personal and theological journey and the development he has undergone.
During this journey, questions arose such as: does God even exist? Is the God of the Quran the same as the God of the Bible? Does Islam teach people to hate disbelievers and oppress women? How did Joram’s negative view of Islam develop? What emotional and social struggles did he have to face? And where has this journey eventually led him?
A must read for Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
“Joram’s sincerity enabled him to shift his perspective, to remove the blind spot, to look at something objectively, and to really try and understand it on its own terms. This led to an extraordinary search, the result of which is the book that you are now reading. This book tells the story of an uncommon trajectory, the journey of a man from animosity to charity, from despair to hope, and from belligerence to peace.” —Shaykh Hamza Yusuf
“To admit that one has been wrong is seldom easy, but to write in careful detail about one’s error, and then to document one’s painful road to truth, reveals considerable strength of character, and restores one’s confidence in human nature and in the prospects for change.” —Prof. Abdal Hakim Murad

This book is a commentary of the invaluable advice of the Prophet ﷺ to ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbbās (Raḍiya ’llāhu ‘an-hu), which begins with the words, ‘Be mindful of Allah and He will be mindful of you.’ The famed eighth-century traditionist Ibn Rajab al-Ḥanbalī takes the reader on a thought-provoking journey through the meanings that can be derived from the hadith, in a manner that is scholarly and comprehensive, yet also easily understood.
He explains that the hadith ‘contains great counsel and comprehensive principles from the most important and most significant aspects of the religion’, such as the rights we owe Allah ﷻ and what He has promised to give us if we fulfil those rights. Ibn Rajab supports his arguments with verses of the Qur’an, additional narrations of the Prophet ﷺ (whose transmissions are analysed), sayings of the Companions (Raḍiya ’llāhu ‘an-hum) and their followers, and insightful stories and poems. As a brief but expansive look at some of Islam’s fundamental tenets, it is an essential addition to every Muslim’s library.
