This book, by the late Indian historian and intellectual, Shaykh Abu l-Hasan Ali Nadwi, is a story of the ebbs and flows of this Umma; the challenges, the setbacks, and most importantly, the successes. It is a poignant story of the accomplishments, attainments, and triumphs that propelled the Umma forward. It is a story told through extraordinary figures: the revivers, men of courage, vigor, and zeal, an elect group who were graced with divine determination to safeguard the spirit of God s religion on earth. In other words, they were the saviours of the Islamic spirit. Drawing on the lives of ten of the most influential personalities of the first seven centuries of Islam, from Hasan al-Basri, Umar ibn Abd al- Aziz, Ahmad ibn Hanbal, and Ghazali to Ibn al-Jawzi and Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi, this work offers comfort and much-needed perspective, given the current situation of Muslims around the world. It aims to inspire Muslim youth and others to virtue and love for All?h, and to provide role models of intellectual and spiritual excellence, at a time when people are looking for motivation from other sources. This history reminds us that we are not in the direst of situations. Few have not felt their spirits lifted by reading this book.

The ‘Nasim’ is a collection of litanies and supplications compiled by Sayyid ‘Abd al-Qadir ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Ali ibn Shihab al-Din, a student of Habib ‘Umar bin Hafiz. These litanies have been traditionally recited in Tarim, Yemen, some for over 1000 years, as part of the congregation of the Khatm of the Qur’an. With this publication of the Nasim, these powerful and ancient supplications are made available throughout the Muslim world. It is hoped that this publication will allow you, your family, and your community to connect with the blessed traditions of Tarim, and through them to the Prophet ﷺ and his family رضي الله عنهم. It is further hoped that this bilingual edition with transliteration will facilitate such a connection, regardless of whether the reader is well-versed in the Arabic language. This text contains: Foreword by Habib 'Umar bin Hafiz Evidence for Gatherings of the Khatm of the Qur’ān, and its Benefits and Etiquettes The Schedule of the Gathering of the Khatm The Prayer on Completion of the Qur'an from Imam 'Ali Zayn al-'Abidin The Plea for the Fulfilment of Filial Piety (Du'a Birr al-Walidayn) of Ibn Abi'l-Hubb Al-Hadrami Introductory material and footnotes In an attempt to unlock the rich eloquence of our master Zayn al-‘Abidin, Sayyid ‘Abd al-Qadir has provided explanatory footnotes that have been retained for the reader of the Arabic text. As for rendering it into English, it was chosen to translate the meanings of the supplications with the aim of keeping the English reader engaged in addressing Allah. In his foreword, Habib Umar bin Hafiz says, “Part of connecting oneself to the Truth and to His Messenger is to venerate the noble Qur’an. It (venerating it) is also a cause of increase in the light of faith and certainty, and of purifying the heart of impurities, so that one’s affair and worth may increase before the Most Merciful. Part of venerating the Qur’an, then, is to recite it with excellence, contemplate its meanings and act upon its contents. Also part of venerating it is to cherish its completion, to gather for its completion, and to mark its completion with supplication, humble entreaty and prayer.” This edition of the Nasim is dedicated to the memory of those killed in the massacre at the mosques of Christchurch, New Zealand. The publishers ask Allah that this work be a gift for the souls of the martyrs and their families.

Sea Without Shore is a practical manual for those travelling the path of Sufism or Islamic mysticism, which strives, in Junayd’s words, “to separate the Beginninglessly Eternal from that which originates in time,” in a word, to be with the Divine without any relation. The book opens with narratives of five Sufis met by the author in Syria, Jordan, and Turkey whose lives exemplified the knowledge and practice of the Sufi path. The second part is a complete handbook of the method and rule of the Shadhili order of Sufism, transmitted to the author by his spiritual mentor, Sheikh ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Shaghouri—–from devotions, dhikr or ‘invocation,’ and metaphysical doctrine, to how a Sufi lives, marries, and earns a living in the modern world. A third part treats wider theological questions such as other faiths and mysticisms, universalism and the finality of Islam, the promise of God to Jews and Christians, evolution and religion, and divine Wisdom and Justice in the face of human suffering. The book provides an indelible portrait of a vibrant mystical tradition spanning seven and a half centuries of endeavor to know the Divine face-to-face. Sheikh Nuh Keller was born in the US in 1954. He read philosophy and classical Arabic at the University of Chicago and UCLA, and became a Muslim in Cairo in 1977. He was authorized as a sheikh in the Shadhili order by Sheikh ‘Abd al-Rahman in 1996 and is the leading authority on traditional Islam in the West. He has studied jurisprudence, hadith, and other subjects with traditional scholars, produced Reliance of the Traveller, the 1st translation of a standard Islamic legal reference in a English to be certified by al-Azhar, the Muslim world’s oldest institution of higher learning. Among his other works and translations are Sufism in Islam, al-Maqasid: Imam Nawawi’s Manual of Islam, Port in a Storm, and an illuminated calligraphic edition of Dala‘il al-Khayrat.
Secrets of Divine Love was written for the longing heart, for the one who is searching for something they have not been able to find. For the one who sometimes spirals into hopelessness and cannot help but feel too imperfect for a perfect God to love. This book is for the one who is at the edge of their faith, who has experienced religion as a harsh winter instead of the life-bearing spring it was sent to be by God.
Secrets of Divine Love serves as a compass and guiding light that returns you to the source of divine peace and surrender. Through the practices and pillars of Islam, you will learn how to unlock your spiritual potential and unveil your divine purpose. A. Helwa uses a rational, yet heart-based approach towards the Quran that not only enlightens the mind, but inspires the soul towards deeper intimacy with Allah. By weaving together dozens of inspiring mystical stories, Quran verses, Hadith, poetry, psychology, and science, the author breaks down Islam in a way that is both digestible and inspiring for millennial Muslims.
A. Helwa not only unveils dozens of spiritual secrets hidden within the Quran, but she does so in an uplifting and gentle way that meets each reader exactly where they are on the path to God. While staying true to classical Islamic theology, A. Helwas emphasis on the forgotten teachings of love in Islam has a way of speaking not to just Muslims but to spiritual seekers of all traditions. Unlike your average book on religion that is focused solely on rules and outer practices, Secrets of Divine Love is a motivational and inspiring guide of how to experience the beauty hidden in the heart of the Quran and the Islamic tradition from a place of love, passion, and joy. If you have been longing to experience a more intimate and loving relationship with Allah, then this book was written for you.

Volume 8, the final volume, covers an area which most Muslims normally feel shy to talk about. However, the author shows that the Prophet’s guidance provides an open approach to a natural desire that needs to be satisfied so that life goes on easily and smoothly. Islam disapproves of ignoring sexual desires or suppressing them in an attempt to achieve spiritual elevation and excellence. In his approach, based on clear understanding of the Qur’an and the Hadith, the author shows that the lawful satisfaction of the sexual desire earns a believer God’s reward. Moreover, he shows that the Prophet’s conduct provides perfect sex education, in the same way as his conduct in other areas shows us the best approach to take in life.

SEX, SOUL AND ISLAM tells a story of an unlikely alliance between two opposite elements of the human experience – the carnal and the spiritual. The sexual instinct could potentially spoil the soul’s quest for paradise. Instead, they become companions when a believer embraces Islam’s revelations on the sex-soul connection. This fascinating title situates sex in its worldview of life, revisits the spirit behind the letter of its sexual laws, and describes how paradises on earth can thrive – where lovers may dwell in tranquillity, love and mercy. Along the way, it explains how marriage anchors this alliance, reframes a prevalently male-serving view of conjugal rights and reintroduces sensual pleasuring as the underlying theme behind the Islamic outlook on lovemaking. The authors explain how classical Islamic perspective regarding sex might navigate pornography, oral sex, sex toys, fantasy roleplay and BDSM, among other – using insights from the social sciences, sexual therapy and the writers’ own counselling experience.
