Book Author: Shaykh Aḥmad Mustafā Al-‘Alāwī
Translated By: Dr Mahdi Hendricks
Publisher: Dar-al Turath al-Islami
Pages:145
ISBN: 9780639755175
The religion (dīn)of Islam practised by the Holy Prophet Muhammad s is composed of three intertwining characteristics: That of, Islam, Iman and Ihsan (submission, faith and worshipping God as if you see him). Present day Muslims are well versed in the practices of exterior worship, but are either obscured from or even reject the spiritual domain of (True) Faith and attainment of the Vision (Witnessing God) The powerful influence of modernism and Islamic Fundamentalism rejects the aspects of Iman and Ihsan, with many unqualified and unenlightened exoteric Islamic scholars labelling the practices of Sufism as Innovation (bid’ah). In response, the Shaikh Al-Alawi, a supreme saint (Ghauth) and scholar (‘Ālim) of the early 20th Century wrote articles in defence of the practices of Sufism and explicated it as the comprehensive embodiment of the religion (Dīn). With vast knowledge and clear understanding of the Qur’an and the Holy Tradition (Sunnah), Shaikh Al-‘Alawi uses ijtihad (legal reasoning) with profound preciseness and clarity to provide succinct evidence to refute those who reject Sufism.

An abridged commentary of the Ratib of Imam al-Haddad
In this short book, the main part of Habib Alawi's commentary is presented, as he describes it as the heart and essence of the book.
It explains the nineteen litanies of the Ratib al-Haddad, illustrating the source of each invocation and the benefits with references to the Quran and the Hadiths of the Prophet (Peace & blessings be upon him).
It is hoped that this short but valuable translation of the commentary will act as a doorway to the larger translation of the commentary and provide readers with an immediate benefit to its blessings, for all those who are seeking Allah through the greatest of paths; the path of His remembrance.

"This book is an attempt to positively say what Islam actually is—and always was—as well as what it is not.
The world is at a crossroads today. A tiny minority of Muslims seems to be bent on hijacking the religion of Islam and bringing it into perpetual conflict with the rest of the world. Because of their actions, very few non-Muslims understand the real difference between Islam as it has always been, and the distorted perversions of Islam today. This book is an attempt to positively say what Islam actually is—and always was—as well as what it is not.
About the author:
H.R.H. Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad bin Talal (born in Amman on the 15th of October 1966) is the nephew of the late King Al-Hussein bin Talal of Jordan. He received his BA from Princeton University in 1988 Summa cum laude; his first Ph.D. from Cambridge University, U.K., in 1993, and his second Ph.D. from Al-Azhar University in Cairo 2010."
"The present book aims to take on this challenge by looking at the major problems from these various aspects, as just mentioned. Obviously, one short book can hardly address all these problems and suggest solutions without certain simplifications and potentially controversial assertions. Nevertheless, it can hope to present a systematic analysis and suggested prognosis based on a coherent philosophy. As indicated above, nothing is more needed in our times, and second to spiritual weakening, the greatest problem of all facing the Islamic World (and indeed the whole world) is lack of understanding of the true natures and essences of things.
This book examines ‘our times’ from an Islamic philosophical world view, looking at the problems facing the Islamic World in the near past, present and future respectively in three mutually complementary parts. At the end of each part, it suggests holistic and easilyapplied remedies to the problems it examines. In other words (and for those who enjoy sonorous German and Greek philosophical terms) it examines the Zeitgeist from the Weltanschauung of Islam and suggests panaceas.
Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad has written a number of books and guides for thinking people, and this small but potent work before you sums up many of his most keen and cogent insights and conclusions; for that reason, this may be his most impactful and motivational work to date."

Ahmad Zarruq’s commentary on Hizb al Bahr by Sidi Ahmad Zarruq
"Hizb al-Bahr (Litany of the Sea) a unique litany made of Quranic verses and supplications, it is a powerful invocation read by multitudes throughout the Muslim world, it was taught by the Prophet to Sidi Abul Hasan al-Shadhili - the renowned Wali'Allah (""Friend of Allah"") whilst traveling to Hajj. On the litany, the Shaykh Abul Hassan al-Shadhili said, ""By Allah, I did not utter it except as it came from the Holy Prophet, from whose instruction I learned it.
'Guard it;' the Holy Prophet said to me, 'for it contains the greatest name of Allah.' It is not recited in any place without security reigning there. If it had been with the inhabitants of Baghdad, the Tatars would not have taken the city."" ""Whoever recites it every day at sunrise, Allah hears his prayer, relieves his distress, raises his standing among people, expands his breast with knowledge of the divine oneness, facilitates his concerns, lifts his hardship, keeps from him the evil of man and jinn, and protects him from the harm of mishaps of the night and day.""
Ibn Ayyad Ahmad Zarruq was one of the most important scholars to come out of the Maghrib, a prominent hadith scholar, expert in aqidah, and one of the most eminent Maliki faqihs combined with a mastery of the inward sciences of Tasawwuf. He joined the elite ranks of the masters of the Shadhili Tariqa that has traditionally been the Tariqa of the Scholars, with adherents like Imam al-Suyuti, Imam al-Sakhawi, Izz ad-Din Abd al-Salam to name but a few.
The Shadhilis have always taught spiritual heights can only be reached by rigorous application of the Shariah. This is Ahmad Zarruq's brilliant work in explaining this phenomenal invocation. With the publication of this translation, another masterpiece of traditional Islamic literature is now available to the English speaking world."
